Where To See Fourth of July Fireworks (and Music)

Bombs will be bursting across the Richmond skies this weekend. Thankfully, they’ll be of the celebratory, family-friendly variety. You can view the many illegal-to-own-or-light-off-yourself-in-Virginia firework displays at a backyard near you. Or try the legal approach. Brown’s Island offers an early start Thursday, July 3, 7:30-9:15 p.m., with performances by the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community and the Richmond Ballet. On July Fourth, Dogwood Dell brings Susan Greenbaum, Larry Robinson and the Richmond Concert Band onstage before igniting the night. Over at The Diamond you’ll find two evenings of explainable booms July 4 and 5 at the end of the Flying Squirrels games. And that’s just the tip of the fuse. Check our calendar for more on the holiday weekend ahead.
