Business You Most Want to Come to Richmond

Readers' Pick

First Place: Wegmans Food Markets

Second Place: Ikea

Third Place: Trader Joe's

Best of Richmond voters seem to be spot-on in picking Wegmans as the store they'd most like to come to Richmond. Consumer Reports ranked the family-owned, Rochester, N.Y., grocery chain No. 1 in the country last year. Jo Natale, director of media relations for Wegmans, says the company is blushing — "We are flattered by Style's readers," she says — but unfortunately the chain has no plans to expand into the Richmond area. Wegmans, which has stores in Charlottesville, Fredericksburg and Northern Virginia among its 81 outlets, likely doesn't want to wade into an already crowded market. Voters also want Scandinavian furniture store Ikea here, which isn't surprising. The chain's closest store is in Northern Virginia. But some readers apparently don't get out much. Wake up! Trader Joe's has been on West Broad Street near Short Pump for several years now. No, it isn't technically in the city — but it's close enough.
