Explore Richmond’s canal system with photographer John Henley and writer Harry Kollatz, Jr., co-curators of the Valentine’s new exhibit West by Water: The James River and Kanawha Canal. As you walk along the existing canal, learn about the history of the James River & Kanawha Canal, hear behind-the-scenes details about the process for capturing photographs of the canal today, and explore some of the many stories behind this hidden infrastructure that helped build the city of Richmond. This walking tour includes plenty of stairs and some uneven terrain. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and being prepared for a moderately active experience. This tour is approximately 2 hours long and covers a distance of around 3 miles.
Advanced tickets required. $20 for adults, $10 for members, free for kids. Tour begins at James Center Plaza, 1003 E Cary St.
