Silhouette Portraits

Ages 18 & up. Known commonly as “shade,” “likeness,” and “shadow portrait,” silhouette portraiture became popular in the late 1700s and remained so until photography was invented and became more widespread in the mid 1800s. It was a more accessible way for the common people to have a likeness of their friends and family members than commissioning an oil painting.
We will explore traditional and modern techniques to create a silhouette portrait that can be used as the perfect timeless decor or as a great gift. Please bring a photo of the person or animal you would like to create a silhouette of. The subject must be in profile (side view).
