SCENECRAFT
with Award-Winning Author and Educator HENRY LIEN
Scenecraft comprises all the elements that make a scene other than the dialogue. In this workshop, we’ll take a look at components like the environment; the physical (spatial) relationship of the characters with each other and the environment; the objects or animals in the scene (not just the people); and the elements that appeal to various senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch). We’ll discuss energy dynamics, such as who has the power and whether it is shifting and form/craft elements, such as changes in point of view, where to begin and end scenes, and more. This workshop will impart lessons from literature, film, tv, theater, video games, and visual art to give prose writers powerful tools to make their scenecraft more gripping.
