Along the Old Mountain Road in Revolutionary Times
All ages. In honor of VA250, please welcome Robert Szabo, President of the Hanover County Historical Society. Mr. Szabo will be speaking about events and maneuvers that took place in the area in and around Montpelier.
Step back into 1781 as the American Revolution marches through our own backyard! Travel the storied road from Ground Squirrel Bridge to Vontay, once trod by the troops of Marquis de Lafayette and Lord Cornwallis, and discover the Virginia families whose homesteads witnessed the clash of armies and the birth of a nation.
Hear vivid accounts of military encampments, local encounters, and the tense chess match between Redcoats and Revolutionaries. Along the way, enjoy lively anecdotes featuring some of Virginia’s most iconic figures—Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Nathaniel West Dandridge, and more.
