A Night in Mr. Cabell’s Richmond

April 16 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Event Series (See All)

Step back in time a century to the Richmond of author and library namesake James Branch Cabell. Join VCU Libraries for an evening inspired by the 1920s, an era of speakeasies, progressive ideas such as voting rights for women, the music and dance styles of the Jazz Age, front-page literary scandals (like the censorship of Cabell’s book) and more. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres, learn how to dance the Charleston. Receive access to our “speakeasy” and see Cabell Library transformed, all to benefit scholarships for VCU students. Costumes are encouraged, so put your glad rags on for an evening sure to be the bees knees.

The event will benefit The Friends of VCU Libraries Scholarship. https://www.library.vcu.edu/about/events/2025-2026/animcr.htmls
