When Style Weekly picked up Richmond's Top 40 Under 40 issue in 2004 — launched by our sister publication, Inside Business, years earlier — some people wondered just how long it could survive.
In a community this size, wouldn't we run out of truly remarkable young men and women if we profiled 40 of them each year?
The fears proved to be unfounded. And in this, Style's fifth anniversary of Top 40, we find it more difficult than ever to wade through the possible choices of young leaders who are successful, talented and giving back to their community.
Perhaps it's the law of increasing returns. Instead of running out, each class of recipients has inspired others, or at the least created a better region and a more fertile soil for candidates of all types, through all disciplines.
Maybe the question isn't whether we'll run out of worthy candidates. It's whether we'll have enough room to feature them all.
