Yet Another Grocery Store Will Open in the Richmond-area.

Publix announces that it will build in Glen Allen.

The grocery store insanity ramps up again as one more player enters the fray.

Publix Super Markets , a grocery chain with stores throughout the South, is slowly pushing north and plans to open a Richmond-area store in a new, soon-to-be built development, Nuckols Place Shopping Center, at 5400 Wyndham Forest Drive in Glen Allen, Richmond BizSense reports.

The land was originally owned by Ukrop’s Super Markets, which planned to anchor the shopping center with a new store. That plan was abandoned when the local grocery chain was sold to Martin’s. A Northern Virginia developer, Virginia Financial Investors and the Peterson Cos., bought the property last summer.

“[Publix is] really well-known for customer service, high-quality food and just a little bit of an upscale experience,” Richmond BizSense quotes CBRE | Richmond’s David Crawford as saying. Along with Kevin South, Crawford helped Publix find the property.

“The Ukrop’s business was so focused on strong customer service — Publix is going to come in and do just that and be very focused on a very high customer service experience,” he says.
