All of that was fun, Winter says, but times and tastes change. Leaving Virginia after college to play for a few years in Colorado and New York City folk venues, Winter explored solo performing. He discovered that playing as a one-man band was rewarding and “a helluva lot easier from a management standpoint.” Inspired by recent Johnny Cash recordings and the music of Bright Eyes, Winter now performs original modern folk tunes and traditional covers. His upcoming gig at Poe’s Pub is his first Richmond show in more than four years. Check out Winter’s musical changes Tuesday (Jan. 7) at 9 p.m. $3.
