Hollywood has never had much of an issue plucking a movie title, and in some cases an entire premise, from the name of a memorable pop song — i.e. “Sixteen Candles,” “My Girl,” “Pretty Woman,” “One Fine Day.” For some reason Irving Berlin's “White Christmas” seems to get a pass for the 1954 film starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. With just the right amount of schmaltz, this holiday favorite follows two nightclub entertainers as they visit a rustic inn run by their former general from World War II, only to learn their former commander suffers from dire financial straits. Together with a beautiful singing-sister act, the former military men secretly put together a grand musical production to save the business. Showcasing the talents of four Broadway veterans (including Michelle Lookadoo and Freddie Kimmel, pictured), Barksdale Theatre presents a stage adaptation of “White Christmas” beginning on Friday, Nov. 19, at the Empire Theatre, with productions through Jan. 9. $19-$46.
