If you’re out Saturday night in certain parts of town, you might think you accidentally wore your Time-Turner. Look for lightening-shaped temporary tattoos, dusty robes and wands on eager Harry Potter fans.
The eighth installment of the series, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II,” will be released at midnight, the start of July 31 (and Harry Potter’s birthday.) It’s based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, and written with the help of Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. Unlike the other books, this is the script of a play that will open in London this weekend.
Barnes & Noble reports that the book has broken its record for the most pre-sale orders, previously held by the seventh, 2007 installment, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”
The story picks up 19 years after the end of the events in the last book. (According to the books, Harry was actually born in 1980; the character turns 36 on July 31.) He’s the father of three and working at the Ministry of Magic.
Devoted Richmond muggles can get their hands on a copy at these events.
Chop Suey Books in Carytown is hosting their event at the Byrd Theatre, where there will be concessions, fortune telling and a live reading of the first scene of the play.
Book People near Libbie and Patterson isn’t having an event but will stay open through midnight, until the last Potter fan gets their copy after midnight.
Fountain Bookstore in Shockoe Slip will open a few hours early, at 10 a.m., on Sunday the 31st. There will be free Butter Beer donuts from Sugar Shack with the purchase of a copy.
