Most of you won’t be working this Tuesday, July 4 — so here are a few picks for events, both night and day, to help you enjoy the 241st anniversary of our big shiny, red, white and blue Independence Day.
Day Parties
Hardywood Brewdependence Day: Come out to Hardywood Park Craft Brewery anytime between 2 and 10 p.m. and get patriotic with a brewski, food trucks and music beginning at 4 with Zep Replica and Full Moon Fever — Led Zeppelin and Tom Petty cover bands, respectively. It’s all ages, free entry. In addition, there will be a bounce house from 2 to 8 p.m. for the kiddos. hardywood.com.
Isley Brewing Co. holds a backyard cookout with Jus Cuk’n BBQ and a nice view of the fireworks. Noon to 10 p.m. Free. isleybrewingcompany.com.
Summer Reign: the Sequel at Kabana Rooftop: Hip-hop duo Kelli Lemon and DJ Lonnie B host a party so nice, they’re doing it twice, starting at 3 p.m. Ticketed event. $17.50-$255 (VIP). kabanarooftop.com.
An Independence Day Celebration at the Virginia Historical Society: Maybe you’re not a big drinker and take this day rather seriously. Come check out a naturalization ceremony featuring 100 candidates for citizenship from nearly 50 countries. Also enjoy the opening of new exhibit “Washington: the Myths and the Man” and a concert from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free. vahistorical.org.
Night Spots to Watch
From Q Rooftop Bar: Catch a scenic view of the fireworks atop Quirk Hotel downtown and enjoy boozy snow cones and barbecue. 5 p.m. to midnight. No reservations.
From the Hof rooftop: The Historic Hofheimer building near the Boulevard offers another great rooftop view, not to mention “German-themed alcohol infused cupcakes.” Hmm.
From the Dell: A time-honored Richmond tradition, celebrate fireworks at Dogwood Dell for this free event with Carillon bells and a show from the Richmond Concert Band. The festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. Free.
From the James River: If you’re really looking for something different, join RVA Paddlesports and Richmond Grid to watch the fireworks from a secluded island on the James River, with a catered picnic from Goatocado. $109 per person or $199 per couple. Check out RVA Fireworks on the James’ Facebook page.
