Some people view flowers as a bad gift idea as in “Aw, thanks, you got me something that eventually will die.” Try telling that to Jesus. Serving as the south-of-the-border sister to Tchaikovsky's holiday staple, “The Legend of the Poinsettia” interprets the Mexican legend of a young girl, who without a gift to honor the birth of Christ, quickly gathers some green weeds. Upon presenting them before a skeptical audience, the plant's dull leaves miraculously turn a beautiful shade of red. Performed by the Latin Ballet of Virginia, the show includes traditional dances from as far away as Puerto Rico and Spain.
