Ask and you shall receive. Last year, Style Weekly readers chose Wegmans Food Markets as the grocery store they’d most like to lure to the Richmond area. Today, the chain announced it will open two locations – in Henrico and Chesterfield – bringing added competition to a crowded field.
No opening dates are given, but the stores will be located in West Broad Marketplace in Short Pump and under-construction Stonehenge Village Shopping Center about a mile west of Chesterfield Town Center mall. The Wegmans product mix includes French pastries, hundreds of cheeses, fine meats and seafood, Mediterranean cases with olives, hummus and other specialties, tableware, flowers and natural foods. The store promises restaurant-quality prepared foods and many of its locations feature café dining.
Wegmans is a family-owned business based in Rochester NY. The 98-year old company is highly rated as an employer and expects to bring as many as 1200 full and part-time jobs to the area. The 83-store chain expects to open a Charlottesville location in the future.
