Smoke gets into your eyes: Former Alamo co-owner Paul Hubbard will open the second location of his current barbecue joint, Deep Run Roadhouse, at 309 N. Laurel St. in the old Moo Burgers space, next door to Asado Wing and Taco Co., the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

Brew news: Richmond breweries swept the Virginia Craft Brewers cup competition, with the Answer bringing home the best in show award for its India Pale Ale, Larceny. Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, Midnight Creek Brewery and Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery all scored gold as well.

North to East: North Side favorite the Mill on MacArthur is opening a second location on the ground floor of Church Hill’s New East End Theater Apartments, Richmond BizSense reports.

Cookie Swap: Late-night cookie delivery service Campus Cookies is closing up shop in Richmond and Red Eye Cookies, a local company with the same mission that’s been operating out of Sally Bell’s Kitchen will move into its spot on West Grace Street.

Sweets: Amanda Robinson, founding executive director of Gallery5, left the art space in 2013 to start a catering company, Sweet Fix, specializing in wedding and special occasion cakes, and European- and Southern-inspired desserts. On Saturday, Sept. 19, Robinson will open the doors of Sweet Fix’s new Manchester storefront at 9 W. 10th St. and celebrate with free sweets, cotton candy, crafts live music all day.

Surprise closing: The Magpie closed unexpectedly after brunch on Sunday, Aug. 30. “After much hard work and consideration, all outlets pursued and explored,” owners Owen Lane and Tiffany Gellner said on the restaurant’s Facebook page, “we have come to the conclusion that we can no longer keep our much loved restaurant open.”
