Weekend, White Laces and Big No at Strange Matter

Friday, Sept. 27. 9 p.m.

The punk, noise pop of Weekend gives as good as it gets. Haunting drones, agitated yet lilting melodies and space-is-the-place, reverb-soaked vocalizations strike the perfect balance between woe, aggression and bliss. It’s a mighty hard trick to pull off and one the trio does time and time again with its sophomore album, “Jinx,” on a Washington label now based in San Francisco, Slumberland Records. The band brings its bitter, edgy sweetness to the Strange Matter on Friday, Sept. 27. Purveyors of local static pop White Laces and the slightly drugged, chorus laments of the Bay Area and Richmond group Big No open. Doors are at 9 p.m. Admission for the 18-and-older show is $8. strangematterrva.com.
