Warner Fan Questions Basketball Analogies

Regarding “The Step Back” (News & Features, Oct. 18), Scott Bass describes Len Bias as if he vividly remembers him — perhaps he’s merely writing what someone told him. Whichever, they’re both wrong. For one, Bias had an excellent inside game; he was not Michael Jordan with a jump shot.

And what was he thinking when he referred to the Celtics as “aging” and Larry Bird as being “in the twilight of his career” in 1986?!

In 1986, the Celtics arguably had one of the three best teams in NBA history — and without a doubt the finest frontline ever. Bird was actually in his prime, and Kevin McHale and Robert Parish would play another seven and eight seasons respectively.

As for Mark Warner, who is Gerald Gowan to flat-out state that Warner will never run for president (“There is not going to be a second time”)? In 2012, his daughters will presumably be attending college — if not having already graduated, and perhaps Ms. Collis will upgrade her feelings on his potential presidential run from “neutral” to “warm.”

Mark Warner for president in 2012? Sounds good to me.
