If it weren't for the fact that it's been a part of human culture for thousands of years, dancing is an understandably absurd kind of activity. Objectively, there should be no discernable excuse for right-minded humans to start moving their legs, arms and heads in a choreographed sequence. Chalk it up as just one of those things that come from the accompaniment of a good beat. Now in its 11th year, the Virginia Dance Festival acknowledges this unspoken love for bodies in motion. Showcasing a variety of performance styles of dance from numerous schools, professional dance companies and organizations — including tap, jazz, ballet, ballroom, hip-hop, Latin, Irish, and American Indian — James River High School is scheduled to hold two productions of the Virginia Dance Festival at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27. Featuring a special silent auction before each show, proceeds of the event benefit Richmond Children's Hospital. 739-7600.
