There’s a rumor that Taste Unlimited — or just Taste, as it’s now known — may be coming to the Grove Avenue area. The Virginia Beach-based gourmet sandwich shop and purveyor of killer house dressing, excellent pimento cheese and specialty items, has spawned a fanatical out-of-town fan base since it opened in 1973.

The information about a new store is mostly true — but not exactly what Richmonders might hope.

No lease has been signed, and although the Taste team is actively looking for a property, according to Amy Jordan, director of marketing, public relations and events, an opening isn’t planned until 2018.

The upshot: Taste wants to come, but it isn’t going to happen anytime soon. And next time you’re in Virginia Beach, please bring me back a bottle of its house dressing and a container of pimento cheese.
