We got ourselves a dandy. The Virginia Commonwealth University Rams basketball team may be the city’s team — with a highly visible coach on the national scene — but it has failed to meet expectations this year, starting out ranked before dropping out of the top 25 completely. Meanwhile, the pesky University of Richmond Spiders, whose underrated coach Chris Mooney does more with less, have proven they can beat anyone in the country on any given night, just knocking off a No. 12 University of Massachusetts team. This should be a fantastic matchup on the morning hardwood for city bragging rights between two exciting teams that could be around come tournament time. The Siegel Center will be rocking at the 11 a.m. tipoff, which you can catch on ESPN2 (or listen to on 950 AM) if you weren’t lucky enough to get a ticket. Wake and shake, baby.
