Dave Robbins, the longtime head coach of Virginia Union’s men’s basketball team, has been inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
Robbins, who retired in 2008, spent 30 years at Union and is one of the best basketball coaches Richmond has ever seen. He won three Division II national championships, 13 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships and coached Charles Oakley and Ben Wallace, who later had successful careers in the NBA. The former coach at Thomas Jefferson High School in the city, Robbins was also the first white head coach in the CIAA.

Robbins will be inducted into the hall on Nov. 18 in Kansas City, Mo.
