Whether they rely on attention-grabbing signs or merely some unspoken rule, most art galleries in town assume their patrons know better than to touch works on display. In the case of Artemis Gallery's latest exhibition, “Trompe-l'oeil,” there might need to be an additional notice to keep them from eating the art. Its title taken from the French phrase “trick of the eye,” the show features the ultra-realistic ceramic work of husband-and-wife team Sandy and Missy Kaolin. Including such inanimate objects as oranges, hamburgers, chocolate and hot dogs, as well many nonfood abstract works, “Trompe-l'oeil” opens alongside a great number of First Fridays galleries Sept. 3 at 5 p.m., (with an opening reception on Sept. 10) remaining on display through Oct. 31.
