Track 5 – Lydia Ooghe

"Girlfriend"

The gently swooning rejection of “Girlfriend” is a near-perfect concoction, a tart bit of feminist spice delivered in a sugary voice. Ooghe (rhymes with “hoagie”) has a poet’s sensibility combined with the effortless grace of a seasoned performer — the result of a childhood spent in part on the Broadway stage in major roles in “Les Miserables” and “The Secret Garden.” Her band, Lux Vacancy (Wells Hanley, Trey Pollard and Jake Thro), is one of the best in town. But even alone, tiny and precise, elegantly perched on a stool with a guitar, she can command a room. You can catch her at Style Weekly‘s Music Issue Launch Party at Capital Ale House on May 19.
