News from the “East meets East” files: The old New China on West Broad Street is now Tokyo Wok. The restaurant opened in late March, and it offers both Japanese and Chinese menus, which include sushi, Chinese lunch specials and traditional Japanese box dinners. Have you noticed an odd 18-wheeler rolling around Richmond lately? It’s Cooking Light magazine’s “On the Move” tour, what it calls a magazine on wheels. What it’s trying to do is spread the word about the magazine, which is dedicated to healthy cooking and eating. The rig is filled with samples and brochures on everything edible that is healthy, the word every on-the-ball food company from Smuckers to Hormel now claims to have invented.
There will be two more days this week for Richmonders to get in on the recipe cards, coupons and talks by Cooking Light reps: Saturday, April 14, and Monday, April 16, at the Ukrop’s at 5201 Chippenham Crossing Circle, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Not only have we found an opportunity to prime the pump for Strawberry Hill, but it just so happens to be for a good cause. Save Our Shelters is hosting a pre-races soiree at the Virginia Historical Society Friday, April 13, at 7 p.m., to raise some much-needed funds for the homeless animals in our city.
In keeping with the races’ California Dreamin’ theme, the Historical Society will be magically transformed into beachfront property with fab decorations and 1960s music.
