For several months, a team at Style Weekly has been immersed in one of the most ambitious projects we’ve tackled in our 25 years. We’d like you to meet our new bimonthly magazine for Richmond women called Belle.
With it we say farewell to our award-winning quarterly publication, Cue, which focused exclusively on fashion and beauty. So what happened?
Put simply, Richmond women told us they wanted more. They wanted an upbeat, refreshing magazine that touched on a wealth of topics — arts, food, fashion, health, entertaining. A magazine that kept them in mind, with stories of inspiring, successful and fascinating local women. A trustworthy publication that would help them decide how to best spend their time and money.
Just as importantly, women told us such a locally produced magazine was sorely needed in the Richmond market. Sure, they kept up with a variety of national and regional publications that provided interesting and useful content. But they wanted stories from people who understood life here, in their backyard.
We accepted the challenge. The result is Belle, whose premier issue is included in this week’s Style and at various locations around town.
In creating the magazine, we set up a few rules for ourselves. Here are some:
That’s Belle. Welcome to it. We hope you enjoy this issue, and look forward to hearing what you think at belle@styleweekly.com.
