Lowe’s knows home improvement. But one Richmond-area weekend warrior has a thing or two to say about the hardware store’s mastery of plumbing repairs.

In his complaint, filed in Henrico County Circuit Court, James Steve Coleman alleges negligence by the North Carolina-based retailer in maintaining its Brook Road location’s restroom facilities.

A defective toilet seat, Coleman charges in the lawsuit, crushed his nuts and bolts to bits and pieces.

The suit alleges that the Lowe’s employees may have neglected to tighten the plastic assembly screws on the back of the hinged toilet seat.

“As a direct and proximate result of the foregoing breaches of duties by the defendants in allowing the hazardous toilet seat to remain on the toilet, the toilet seat crushed one of the plaintiff’s testicles,” the suit says.

Coleman’s suit also alleges that “the defective condition of the toilet seat was not readily discernable [sic].”

Sparing the judge the particulars of Coleman’s injury to his, ahem, power tool, the suit describes “great pain of the body and mind” sustained at the time of the accident and certain to continue into the future, and anticipates future medical costs as well as “lost earning capacity” resulting from the damage.

The suit seeks $75,000 in damages, plus court costs.

Calls to Coleman’s lawyer were not returned by press time, nor were calls to Lowe’s corporate office. S
