Three Times A Lady

Tragedy meets comedy for the classic Jacques Offenbach opera “Tales of Hoffmann.” In the work, the poet Hoffmann recounts his fantastical attempts to pursue his three great loves, each time being sabotaged by a meddling villain with supernatural powers. This opera’s got it all — love scenes, beautiful melodies and bizarre characters. Making her debut with the company as all four lead female roles is young French soprano Manon Strauss Evrard. Hollywood heavyweight Richard Blankenship, set designer to the stars, was brought in to oversee the creation of the impressive “Hoffmann” set — for a pretty penny to be sure. Look for the Digitext supertitles to unravel the French for you. The opera takes place at the Landmark Theater Friday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2:30 p.m. $20-$85. 262-8003. S
