For its latest ballet, the Latin Ballet of Virginia is exploring the myth of the golden kingdom of El Dorado. In 1537, a Spanish conquistador discovered the nation of Muisca, in what is modern-day Colombia. Stories about this nation’s tribal chief who covered himself in gold dust soon reached across South America to Spain. And so the legend of El Dorado, meaning “the golden one,” was born. People have searched for the mythical kingdom, thirsting for gold, but the ballet is about hungering for something more magical and mystical. The company’s dancers will bring the legend to life with their renowned passion, energy and fabulous Latin flair. “El Dorado” premieres at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen Friday, Oct. 19, and run through Oct. 21. The ballet shows Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. $15-$20. 379-2555. S
