Formed in 1973 by keyboardist Michael “Ibo” Cooper and guitarist and cellist Steven “Cat” Coore, Jamaica's Third World prides itself on being one of the longest-running reggae bands of all time. Releasing more than 20 albums that consistently infuse their natural island grooves with elements of R&B, funk, soul, pop and rock (a move that early on came across as blasphemous to traditional Rasta lovers), Third World's successful crossover experimentation helped bring reggae to an international audience. Having toured with Bob Marley and the Wailers and collaborated with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Third World is in the midst of celebrating 35 years as a band with a yearlong tour and the release of a new album, “Patriots.” Performing the last of this summer's Fridays at Sunset concerts, Third World is set to play Kanawha Plaza at 6 p.m. Aug. 20. $20.
