Formed in China, the classical string ensemble Shanghai Quartet is known for its cultural innovations and impressive technique. The quartet infuses Western repertoire with Eastern passion and sensibilities, performing traditional Chinese folk music as well as classical music. Formerly at University of Richmond, Shanghai now serves as ensemble-in-residence at Montclair State University and has released an impressive 24 albums. The quartet regularly tours the Americas, Asia and Europe. Playing with the Shanghai Quartet will be 20-year-old piano virtuoso Yuja Wang.
