The mixed-media creations of Tracey St.Peter live in a world of esoteric splendor. Her paintings and papier-mâché sculptures covered in encaustic wax with crystals, semiprecious stones and light bulbs are ornate and literal, but they convey an instinctual sense of the enigmatic. The muted hues of color, the ritual process of the work and the use of and themes of light enable her pieces to change form and meaning depending on the vantage point from which they’re viewed. Rooted in time and place, Peter has found a way to circumvent the rigidity of the pedestrian with a curiosity emphasized by the ever-evolving nature of her work. Her show, “There Will Be Rainbows,” opens Friday, April 11, from 7-9 p.m. at the Eric Schindler Gallery. On view through May 17.
