After the phenomenal success of its inaugural season last year, The Virginia Museum’s Art After Hours series is back for an encore. The event provides an opportunity to mix and mingle while soaking up a healthy dose of culture. Museum tours, live jazz and blues, poetry readings and wine tastings are all a part of this weekly after-work culturefest. Feb. 3 Rhythm and blues from MoDebree; wines from Horton Cellars Winery; jazz poet Dr. M. Njeri Jackson; and a tour of the museum’s works in which the color blue is prominent Feb. 10 Jazz and blues from René Croan and Jazzbone; wines from Prince Michel Vineyards; a reading with poet Michelle Surat; and a tour of works of art featuring love and romance Feb. 17 The Ashby Anderson Ensemble of Jazz; poet Jon Michael Spencer with musical accompaniment; wines from Rockbridge Vineyard; and a tour of art objects inspired by jazz music Feb. 24 Island sounds and funk grooves from Voice and Hand; experimental poet Cheryl Pallant (Style’s dance critic); wines from Oakencroft Vineyard and Winery; and a tour featuring a look at the use of light in painting March 2 R&B from Gale McGehee & Knockturns; South American storytelling from Consuelo Navarro; wines from Afton Mountain Vineyards; and a look at glass objects in the museum’s collections March 9 Texas- and Chicago-style blues from the Smoking Section; wines from the Williamsburg Winery; an art tour exploring the riches of everyday objects; and readings from members of Richmond Women’s Poetry Workshop March 16 Sara Desvernine lectures on the Cuban avant-garde; a museum tour showcasing warriors from various cultures and periods; contemporary and traditional jazz from F.R.E.N.S.; wines from Rose Bower Vineyard and Winery Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 on the day of the event.
