The Toadies at the Canal Club

In the weird mire of '90s music, a time of humpty dances and tub-thumping and teen spirit and mmm mmm mmm mmms, Texas rockers the Toadies still managed to define themselves as strange with “Possum Kingdom,” that bayou tale of either vampirism or virginity lost. Whatever it was, it caused speculation and made the Toadies a enigmas with a massive sound. But that was one song amongst many, and that was like a thousand years ago. The Toadies still possess that sound, large and heavy, and their twisted sense of things survived “Candle in the Wind '97” to emerge on the far side of this decade with a new album, “No Deliverance,” which has lost nothing in the interim. The Toadies play the Canal Club with People in Planes and Conshafter on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. $14-$16. 643-2582. — Brandon Reynolds
