The Shins at the National

Ever since the adorable Natalie Portman proclaimed how the Shins “will change your life” in actor and director Zach Braff's ode to twentysomething aimlessness in “Garden State,” the band, featured prominently in the film's soundtrack, has become one of the most recognizable names in indie rock. Three albums in, from the 2001 debut, “Oh, Inverted World,” to its most recent effort, 2007's “Wincing the Night Away,” this Albuquerque foursome brings an unassuming craftsmanship to songs that could otherwise be tacked up as familiar, formalist pop. Currently on the road and working out new material, the Shins play the National on Wednesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. $30-$35. 612-1900 or www.thenationalva.com.
