The Score

A weekly rating of the city zeitgeist.

+7 Richmond police announce the indictments of 14 men who were part of an East End gang, the Church Hill Boyz, after a three-year investigation. Investigators say the pieces fell into place when clues led them to suspicious boyz in Church Hill.

-3 The Henrico County School Board updates its code of conduct manual to prohibit, among other things, “any substance that could be considered a weapon, such as Mace.” Could be considered a weapon? Isn’t it clearly labeled on the side, right next to the big warning? Next year, they’ll outlaw bullwhips.

+2 Brazilian Indy racer Tony Kanaan wins the SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond International Raceway over the weekend. He owes his success to the streamlining effects of the wax job that is his national heritage.

-8 We’re No. 2! The T-D notes that Robert Stacy Yarbrough will go down in history as Virginia’s 100th execution in modern times, making Virginia second to Texas in reaching the milestone. We have a feeling this won’t be going in the “Virginia Is for Lovers” brochures.

-6 See the General Assembly convene. See the General Assembly argue. See the General Assembly do nothing. See the General Assembly go home. See the General Assembly get stuck in traffic on worn-out roads.
