The Score

A weekly rating of the city zeitgeist.

-2Sen. George Allen comes under fire for calling one of his campaign opponent’s volunteers — a Virginian of Asian Indian descent — a “macaca,” and for welcoming him to America and “the real world of Virginia.” By real world, he means casually racist.

-3If that weren’t enough, Allen is ridiculed by “The Daily Show,” which “sends” a correspondent here and uses the Richmond dateline — even though the “macaca” incident happened in Southwest Virginia. So now we’re even getting bad press from fake news shows.

-4Yet again, Shockoe Bottom businesses are flooded and cars become submerged after a deluge of rain hits Richmond. Here’s how to get this fixed: Move City Hall to Shockoe Bottom.

0Ending a nationwide search, the last two of the Egyptian exchange students unaccounted for since early August are found at the Forest Ridge Apartment complex. Apartment managers are now requiring a Homeland Security deposit.

+1The Richmond Free Press nabs an exclusive interview with ex-con and former city councilman Sa’ad El-Amin, who says he’s moving back to Richmond, will stay out of politics and has learned to be patient. Patient like a fox.
