The Score

A weekly rating of the city zeitgeist.

+8 After its 36-hour burst of fundraising, the Amazing Raise reports generating 18,106 gifts and $1.5 million for 465 local charities. Much more productive than the 36-hour buffet binge we once attempted called the Amazing Graze.

+5 Richmonders raise their glasses to the arrival of fall, with two weekend Oktoberfests and Gov. Bob McDonnell tapping Legend Brewing Co.’s 20th anniversary firkin. This usually isn’t what comes to mind when you think of government taps.

+1 Radio station 103.7 The River re-brands as 103.7 Play, launching a more contemporary music format. The change is the result of complex calculations, which included fiddling with the hypotenuse of Katy Perry and dividing by the square root of One Direction.

-4 The Virginia Flaggers commemorate the birth of the Confederate battle flag by posing at the State Capitol with a 15-by-15-foot version, which will be raised near Interstate 95 on Saturday. Too bad controversy can’t fly farther south for the winter.

+2 An online petition to the NFL for Richmond-grown metal band Gwar to play the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show surpasses 30,000 signatures. The only glitch is the lack of technology available to get fake intestines out of AstroTurf.
