The Richmond Festival of Baroque

Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6.

The Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia presents a series of concerts this weekend celebrating the influential music form that originated in Italy in the 1600s. The performances begin Friday with the concert “Rule Britannia” at the Church of the Holy Comforter, featuring instrumental and vocal music by English composers of the 17th and 18th centuries performed by Alissa Smith on viola, Meg Owens on oboe and Florian Deuter on violin at 7:30 p.m. The three other concerts in the series are “Seeing Double” at noon Saturday in the Gellman Room at the Richmond Public Library, “Night Music” later that evening at 7:30, and “Café Zimmerman” at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Church of the Holy Comforter. Listeners will get a comprehensive, up-close and personal experience with the centuries-old music form. For information call 519-2098 or visit cmscva.org.
