This year hometown favorite, the No BS Brass Band, gets featured slots on the Saturday and Sunday Folk Festival schedule. It's an advance on the group's role last year, leading a memorable march through the grounds that drew too much of a crowd to keep up with the players.

Since the early days of the band, when it frequently would set up right in the middle of the audience, No BS has never had a problem connecting with the audience. Led by the soulful slur and holler of Reggie Pace's trombone and the sharp explosive snap of Lance Koehler's drums, the band features many of the best young players on the scene —additional trombonists Bryan Hooten, Reggie Chapman and Dillard Watt, trumpeters Marcus Tenney, Bob Miller, Taylor Barnett and the stratospheric Rob Quallich, Stefan Demetriadis on tuba, and David Hood on sax.

The band tears into everything with the commitment and glee of a rock 'n' roll band, from clever originals to surprising choices in covers, including Michael Jackson's “Thriller” and Rush's “Tom Sawyer.” If you've never seen it, now you officially have no excuse. If you have seen it, you don't need the recommendation.
