George Clinton and the funk mob ain’t what they used to be. Clinton’s singing voice left the group years ago in a contract dispute to be substituted by a hoarse growl. Guitarist and vocalist Gary Shider’s trademark diaper sags unattractively. Key group members are long gone, replaced by hangers-on, rookies and Clinton’s cronies. But any faults, defaults and shortcomings in the Parliament Funkadelic 2007 lineup, won’t deter devoted funkateers from Toad’s Place Sunday, Sept 23, at 7:30 p.m. Expect marathon versions of P-Funk anthems, animated crowd participation and, just maybe, an appearance by Richmonder and former Parliament drummer Jerome “Bigfoot” Brailey. Tickets are $25. (800) 514-ETIX.
