The Harlem Globetrotters at the Richmond Coliseum

Sunday, Dec. 26

Since its creation by Dr. James Naismith more than a hundred years ago, basketball has gone through a number of evolutionary changes. Most of these modifications have been stylistic in nature, in which maneuvers such as the slam dunk and the alley-oop, the no-look pass and the fadeaway jump shot have successfully boosted the game's entertainment value. Looking to provide a more technical innovation are the Harlem Globetrotters, who have begun implementing the first-ever 4-point shot as part of their games. Capable of being made from one of two designated areas about 35 feet from the basket on each half of the court, making a 4-pointer adds an additional 12 feet from the National Basketball Association 3-point attempt. Making personal and team challenges about who can hit the most, the Globetrotters are scheduled to play two games at the Richmond Coliseum on Sunday, Dec. 26, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. $17.
