Buttafly Vazquez is a star. Everything the Richmond vocalist sings is fueled with an understated sensual elegance. Part Sade with the earthy gospel root of Chaka Khan, Vazquez is difficult to resist, especially when she fronts a band such as the Flavor Project, whose members are designed to bring out the best of her seductive charms. This is no simple back-up band. It takes a team effort to deliver a good time and that they do every time they set foot onstage. The eight-piece Latino funk, vintage soul and hip-hop collective brings its infectious grooves to Cary Street Café on Saturday, June 14. Doors open at 10 p.m. Free. carystreetcafe.com.
