The Crawfish Funeral March

What must zydeco sound like to the crustaceans? The brass horns trumpeting the end of the world? Because where the music of the bayou collects, so too is there often a Cajun food festival right behind, wherein the gumbo is the last stop for so many shrimps. We are called upon to celebrate their sacrifice at the Second Annual Old Dominion Bayou & Blues Cajun Food Festival Saturday, Oct. 21, at Innsbrook’s FasMart Pavilion, 2-10 p.m. Grammy-nominated blues pianist Marcia Ball leads the party, all blues and boogie, tying together her Texas roots and New Orleans taste for swamp rock with a voice that’s at least as big as a piano. She plays along with Porter, Batiste and Stoltz of the dance funk pioneers the Funky Meters, Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers, the three-decades-long blues of The Nighthawks and local singer-songwriter Kyle Davis. Let the streets run red with Tabasco! Tickets are $17-$25. 706-1626. S
