The Capital City Kwanzaa Festival at the Showplace Exhibition Center

As Dec. 31 approaches, many folks reminisce about the year, give thanks for loved ones and look ahead to the future. In essence, that’s what Kwanzaa is all about. The Elegba Folklore Society celebrates the holiday of thanksgiving and renewal with the Capital City Kwanzaa Festival. The event brings in legendary actress and humanitarian Ruby Dee as well as a day of entertainment, including Elegba’s African dancers and drummers, Sharon Rae North’s Jazz Quintet, Truth & Rights Reggae Band, Jah-I-Witness, the African Market, food and workshops. The Capital City Kwanzaa Festival takes place at the Showplace Exhibition Center on Saturday, Dec. 31, from 1-9 p.m. $5-$7. 644-3900.
