PBS-TV will be offering its own commemorative concert at 10 p.m., to be broadcast live from New York. With Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as backdrops, the concert will feature Verdi’s 1873 Requiem. Zdenek Macal will conduct the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
On ABC-TV, Peter Jennings will again moderate an edition of “Answering Children’s Questions,” a follow-up to the award-winning special he hosted a year ago. He’ll look at how children’s concerns have changed since September 2001. The town-hall-format program is expected to air episodically during prime time and on “Nightline.”
PBS will also offer an encore broadcast of Frontline’s “Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero,” first shown Tuesday, Sept 3. The two-hour program tackles the difficult subjects of good and evil, the potential for darkness within religion itself and God’s culpability in the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
In addition, all the major networks are expected to carry a prime-time address to the nation by President Bush on Sept 11 at 9:01 p.m..
Be advised: The networks were reluctant to nail down specific times for their 9/11 coverage as they continued to conduct research on what audiences want to see, so all programs and times were still tentative as recently as a few days ago. — Don Dale
