Behind the glass of Philosophie’s jewelry counter, there’s a place where sophistication and playfulness combine. Kathy Bailey’s signature designs are simultaneously refined and fun. From a dramatic turquoise necklace to slim, dangly earrings, her creations vary according to her mood (or, more often, her clients’ fancies).
Bailey, a Richmonder who perfected her talent for beading while living in New York City, says that the majority of her business is custom work. Clients see pieces and request different colors, shapes or mediums. In turn, she uses semiprecious stones to bring to life what they’ve imagined. She’ll design jewelry for an entire bridal party based on the bride’s color scheme.
Bailey crafts her pieces in the farmhouse she and her husband are renovating. Her wares can be found at Philosophie (3132 W. Cary St.), the Crozet Crafts Fair (Oct. 13 and 14), and online at www.kathybaileydesign.com.
