The Richmond Book Festival at John B. Cary Elementary
The Richmond Book Festival will feature plenty of books as well as some authors (including Blair Williamson, author of “Island Girls”), craft vendors, bouncy houses, and even a special live concert by Richmond’s own legendary salsa group, Bio Ritmo. Should be fun for the whole family. Starts at 11 a.m. Bio Ritmo will be playing for the kids from 1 to 3 p.m. John B. Cary Elementary is located at 3201 Maplewood Ave. Runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WRIR 18th Anniversary Party at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery
Come celebrate 18 years of WRIR Richmond Independent Radio on Saturday at Hardywood Craft Brewery (2410 Ownby Lane). WRIR DJs will kick things off at 1 p.m. followed by live musical entertainment starting at 3 p.m. featuring a wide variety of local bands, including: Ruth Good, Rikki Rakki, Ducttape Jesus, Armagideon Time, Pay Rent Brass Band, Toward Space, and Jonathan Brown. Proceeds from beer sales go to support WRIR community radio. More details can be found at wrir.org. Runs 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The 19th Annual Ashland Train Day in downtown Ashland
The Downtown Ashland Association hosts this family-friendly event that “invites you to explore historic downtown Ashland, Va. You’ll find freight and passenger trains, touch-a-truck, model trains, railroad history, live music, kiddie rides, festival food, dance music, and gift shopping.” More than 12 fully loaded CSX freight trains and Amtrak passenger trains pass through the center of the event and model trains of every size and scale will be on display. Runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free.
