The 42nd annual Richmond Greek Festival at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, runs June 1-4

It’s the return of this popular, crowded event located at 30 Malvern Ave. and featuring lot of yummy Greek dishes such as spanakopita and moussaka (love the yahni or green beans slowly cooked in tomato sauce), wine, music and dancing. Runs on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Event is free though food and beverages and marketplace items will cost you. No pets allowed. Rain or shine. First Fridays in the Arts District

A free community event that starts at 5 p.m. and features a walk of art openings, live music, food and drink specials, comedy acts, special events and djs, located along historic Broad Street. For more information, visit https://richmondartsdistrict.org.

Friday Cheers with Sampa the Great and Kenneka Cook at Brown’s Island

Zambian poet, songwriter and visual artist, Sampa the Great, offers a wide-ranging mix of smooth hip-hop, neo soul, electronica, jazz and gospel singing (her single “Never Forget” was used in the trailer for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”). She’ll be joined by the remarkable Richmond vocalist Kenneka Cook, also known for her complex soul and pop creations often performed with a looping pedal. Cook starts at 6:30 p.m. with Sampa the Great at 8 p.m. $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. For more, visit venturerichmond.com.

Subhumans with Upchuck, Talk Me Off at Richmond Music Hall

Good ‘ole fashioned anarcho-punk show headlined by legendary U.K. punk band Subhumans, who formed in 1980 and are probably best known for their classic 1983 debut album, “The Day the Country Died.” Earlier this year, the band’s first six albums were reissued via Pirates Press Records and its last album (“Crisis Point”) dropped in 2019. They’re joined by Atlanta punkers Upchuck and Richmond’s own Talk Me Off. Doors at 7 p.m. show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.
