She played Carnegie Hall as part of the big Afrofuturism festival earlier this year, now you get to see her perform for free in the intimate space of Richmond’s newest modern art museum on First Friday. A composer, clarinetist, pianist, vocalist, producer, educator and deejay, Angel Bat Dawid will bring her own unique brand of free jazz and will be joined by Virginia-based artist JJJJJerome Ellis for an evening performance of “music, poetry and mysticism.” If you’re a fan of artists like Sun Ra or Alice Coltrane, you probably don’t want to sleep on this one. 7:30 to 9 p.m. Make reservations here.
